Torri Stewart, artist and weaver

Torri Stewart is an artist who moved to New Zealand over 20 years ago and now calls Gisborne home.

She started printmaking in 2022, and has developed a passion for collagraph plates and blind embossing.

In 2024 Torri joined Form to Freedom, an online weaving course tutored by Harriet Goodall as part of the Fibre Arts Take Two portfolio of art courses. Weaving has transformed Torri’s art practice and helped her reconnect with the natural world that she loves so much. Now weaving incorporates itself into her printing, wall and woven art, and most recently into painted works.

With daily foraging on beaches and in her wild garden, Torri is constantly finding inspiration for her art in the world around her. Explore what she creates in the galleries of the website or join her on her creative journey by following her on Instagram.

Torri is a member of Print Council NZ, Gisborne Printmakers and is Acting Chair of Gisborne Artists’ Society.
